Narrow but surprisingly comfortable!, June 27, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Brand New Tan Shikibuton Trifold Foam Beds 3" Thick X 27" Wide X 75" Long, 1.8 lbs high density resilient white foam, Floor Foam Folding Mats. We ordered this product for those nights when co sleeping with our baby inevitably lead to Dad sleeping on the floor.It should be noted that this bed is much narrower than a standard twin size mattress and when it arrived it was compressed in a rather clever way so that I thought there must be some mistake by the dimensions of the box. After unwrapping however, the mat was true to size, color and general description. Shipping from this company was quick. The nicest surprise was its comfort. Some how or other I ended up sleeping on it one night and it was more comfortable than my bed! Its a firm supportive mat but you don't feel the floor through it at all , even when sleeping on my side , the mattress created enough support for my hip bones.I have mild lower back issues and woke up without any stiffness of soreness - something I cant say for the average nights sleep I get on my bed. - Didn't want annoying sofa with large backs and armrests, so these seemed perfect! Nice open room.
- One can turn into a seat in the triply-folded position, maybe combine two into a mini foam bench? Haven't really tried.
Pros:
- Made of 100% synthetic materials so no bugs.
- Foam is inside and can be removed with zippers, so can be washed in an emergency or after many months/years of use. Not sure how waterproof the covering is though (presumably decent enough).
Cons:
- Tan color is stronger than picture seems to indicate (picture seems to show an almost-white tan; real color is not that saturated but somewhat darker, a bit lighter than cardboard)
- Really bad smell when came out of packaging, but after airing out for a day the smell was less strong, so you couldn't smell it except from fairly close. Residual odors seem mostly gone after 1-2 weeks.
Would buy again.
